Frequently Asked Questions
about Fishing on Pyramid Lake
What kind of fishing do you do?
Most trips focus on trolling and jigging, which are very effective techniques for catching Pyramid Lake’s famous Lahontan cutthroat trout.
We’re also working on adding fly fishing trips. Because fly fishing requires more open space on the boat, we need advance notice so we can remove some of the gear and set the boat up properly. If fly fishing is on your list, just let us know ahead of time and we’ll make it happen.
Can I bring my own fishing pole?
Absolutely! Many guests like using their own gear. Just let us know ahead of time so we can make sure everything works smoothly with the setup for the day.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
Yes, you can keep fish, but Pyramid Lake has specific regulations.
Each person on the boat may keep up to two fish. The legal slot size is 17–20 inches.
You can keep:
• Two fish in the 17–20 inch slot, or
• One slot fish (17–20 inches) and one trophy fish over 24 inches
The rules can be a little confusing, but don’t worry—your guide will help you determine what’s legal to keep.
Will you clean or store the fish?
If you plan to keep your catch, please bring a bag of ice so the fish can stay fresh after the trip.
Can I bring my dog?
As much as we love dogs, pets aren’t allowed on the boat for safety and space reasons.
Can I bring someone for a bucket-list fishing trip?
Of course. Pyramid Lake is a bucket-list destination for many anglers, and we love helping people experience it for the first time.
Can I bring a cooler?
You’re welcome to bring drinks and snacks, but we recommend leaving your cooler in the car. There’s an on-board cooler available, and you’re free to load it up for the trip.
What kind of boat do you use?
Trips run on a 22-foot Duckworth, a stable and comfortable fishing boat that’s perfect for Pyramid Lake. It also has a removable top to adapt to weather and fishing conditions.
